Scarification

Here, I have shown some images of profound Scarification that I either really like or have found interesting. I have selected pictures covering different areas of the body and this has really inspired me to think about how much of the body my makeup designs will cover. Also, I would like to take into consideration the position of my makeup in terms of what is alluring whether I apply only makeup to 'alluring' areas or leave these as the only bare parts, either way drawing attention to different parts of the body, e.g. neck, mouth, shoulder, eyes etc.

Below are some examples of scarification I find more shocking, reminding me I need to think of what I want my makeup design to say and how it will be received by others. Whether my makeup will portray beauty or shock/scare people. Also to note that these scars are so large and profound that spirit gum may need to be used in order to stick bigger objects to the skin. I can envisage the markings, on the image on the left, to be created by either ribbon, for a more fashion feel, or vines for a more earthy look, or pasta tubes covered with latex for a fleshier effect.

I really like the simplicity of the scarring in these images, I feel the patterns formed are very effective and have inspired me to go on and experiment and manipulate my ideas more. In particular the image of the scarred shoulder, this pattern could easily be repeated more around the chest, leaving the neck free, I feel it could create a very successful fashion image. Also the image of the scarred abdomen looks very much like a textile piece. The texture of this to touch - fantastic!

I was drawn to this picture due to the comparison between harsh and subtle scarring and how this adds depth to the body.

The importance of pattern is highlighted! Scarification as branding - a way to make you individual or a way to make you belong??? How far would you go to brand yourself? How well considered would your brand be? Here, I love the mirroring technique on the face and body. The left image mirrors circular motions across the forehead and chin, balancing the face, this is very striking and I admire this look but I believe the subtle cheek scarring is what has made this design beautiful. Also the riht hand image of the back, has literally mirrored the pattern, using the spine as the centre, exposing how well considered scarification actually is and how it would take a great amount of skill to form or recreate these markings.
