Changing what we were given

Body manipulation or just customising?

I feel this image pushes tribal accessories even further than the last. This has opened up my mind to new possibilities regarding styling. for example I have viewed many images with headbands but this picture shows a painted line around the head. The idea that accessories don't have to be taken literally. Be creative in how I interpret them! I'm also drawn to this for the painted dots on the face and the focus of the model. The idea of masking something or just adding decoration to make something or someone more beautiful. The stretched ear shocked me at first, but with the aboriginal detail I now find it hypnotic. I originally thought I would include this on my blog to show customising through body manipulation - reverting back to orlans principles of facial reconstruction. I'm amazed at how this changes the shape of the face/head, how the silhouette has been altered. Although this may be difficult for our culture to understand why someone would go this extreme, I need to come to the realisation that this is another extension of tribal fashion. Makes me feel queasy yet intrigued/fascinated!!
